The worst part of the Ark Encounter theme park is their plan for the non-ark rides. First up: the 10 Plagues of Egypt. Is there really demand out there to see a plague ride?

I can’t think of any really famous Dawkins quotemines, but there is a Darwin one that’s quite well-known:

Darwin wrote that “To suppose that the eye [...] could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.”

Most people who quote that, stop right there, and don’t include the next line: “When it was first said that the sun stood still and the world turned round, the common sense of mankind declared the doctrine false”

In other words, just because something sounds weird doesn’t mean it’s not true.

I’ll admit it: I can be a bit paranoid when it comes to personal freedoms. In a recent podcast, Cory Doctrow mentioned how the Internet and our modern communications networks were absolutely essential to the widespread non-leadership organization of something like the Occupy movement. He wasn’t specifically talking about SOPA at the moment, although there had been a lot of discussion of it earlier in the talk. Suddenly they started coming together for me; especially, as you mention, in the light of recent events from Egypt and Libya.

No, I don’t think this is the “true purpose” of the bill or any crap like that. I think it’s just a nice convenient added benefit for those that would abuse their power.

I’ll be buying Girl Scout cookies this year, for the first time in years, because I don’t agree with intolerance or BIGOTRY based on a person’s gender (or, actually, based on ANY reason). I’m proud of GSA for their position, and I emailed them to tell them so! Even if you don’t buy cookies, feel free to drop them an email to support their stand against discrimination.
